Prime Hook – Totally Transformed

We first kayaked Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge in 2014. Six years later, after the effects of “Sandy” and a major restoration effort, Prime Hook shows the power of nature to transform and recover. In 2020 we returned to Prime Hook and found changed scenery. More importantly several miles upstream from the launch site the water is badly silted making for a less than enjoyable kayaking experience. We no longer recommend Prime Hook as a kayaking location.

Below are 3 views of the launch site showing the changes over the last six years, and a few pictures of the shortened paddle on this day in 2020.
